In-House CNC Service is a growing CNC field service company based in Southern California. We provide CNC machine repair, troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, machine relocation support, decommissioning, installation, and startup services for customers throughout Southern California and across the U.S.

We are looking for an experienced Master CNC Service Technician who can work independently in the field, solve complex machine problems, communicate professionally with customers, and help support the growth of our technical team.

Position Overview

This is not an entry-level maintenance position. We are seeking a highly skilled CNC service technician with strong mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and CNC control troubleshooting experience.

The ideal candidate can walk up to a down machine, gather the right information, identify the root cause, create a practical repair path, and clearly document the findings. This position requires strong field service ability, professional customer communication, and the ability to lead complex service calls.

Key Responsibilities

CNC Diagnostics & Repair

  • Diagnose and repair CNC machine failures involving mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, lubrication, coolant, spindle, servo, drive, amplifier, and control systems.
  • Troubleshoot CNC controls and machine alarms on equipment using controls such as Fanuc, Haas, Siemens, Mitsubishi, Yasnac, Okuma, Heidenhain, Fadal, and other common industrial CNC platforms.
  • Perform servo, spindle, axis, encoder, feedback, limit switch, proximity switch, I/O, relay, contactor, drive, amplifier, and motor troubleshooting.
  • Use electrical schematics, ladder logic, diagnostic pages, parameter data, alarm history, and field testing to isolate machine problems.
  • Perform mechanical repair work including ball screws, linear guides, way systems, bearings, gearboxes, drawbars, tool changers, turrets, hydraulic units, pumps, lubrication systems, and related machine components.
  • Support troubleshooting and repair of bar feeders, pallet systems, rotary tables, probing systems, tool changers, robotic loaders, and other machine accessories.

Alignment, Accuracy & Preventive Maintenance

  • Perform CNC machine inspections, preventive maintenance, and service recommendations.
  • Check machine geometry, backlash, squareness, spindle condition, tool changer operation, lubrication systems, hydraulic systems, coolant systems, and general machine condition.
  • Assist with machine leveling, alignment, ballbar testing, spindle runout checks, test bar checks, and accuracy-related troubleshooting.
  • Support machine relocation, decommissioning, installation, startup, and verification services.
  • Identify root causes of repeat failures and recommend practical repair solutions to reduce customer downtime.

Customer Communication & Documentation

  • Communicate clearly and professionally with customers regarding machine issues, repair findings, parts needed, and recommended next steps.
  • Write accurate service reports documenting diagnostics performed, findings, repairs completed, parts needed, and remaining recommendations.
  • Represent the company professionally while working in customer facilities.
  • Work with office staff to provide information needed for estimates, parts sourcing, follow-up repairs, scheduling, and customer updates.
  • Maintain organized documentation of machine findings, photos, parameter information, and job notes when needed.

Team Leadership & Mentorship

  • Assist in training and mentoring Technician 1 and mid-level technicians.
  • Help establish proper troubleshooting methods, safe work practices, and consistent service procedures.
  • Serve as a technical resource for complex field service calls.
  • Support the company’s continued growth by helping improve service quality, documentation, communication, and repair standards.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • 8+ years of hands-on CNC machine repair, maintenance, or field service experience preferred.
  • Strong troubleshooting ability across mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and CNC control systems.
  • Ability to read and understand electrical schematics, ladder diagrams, hydraulic prints, pneumatic diagrams, mechanical drawings, and machine manuals.
  • Experience working with CNC controls such as Fanuc, Haas, Siemens, Mitsubishi, Okuma, Yasnac, Heidenhain, Fadal, or similar controls.
  • Strong understanding of servo systems, spindle drives, encoders, feedback systems, I/O, relays, contactors, VFDs, motors, sensors, safety circuits, and machine interlocks.
  • Ability to perform parameter backups, basic control diagnostics, alarm research, machine data verification, and troubleshooting using control diagnostic screens.
  • Experience with machine geometry, leveling, backlash checks, ballbar testing, spindle checks, and alignment-related troubleshooting is highly preferred.
  • Must be able to work independently, think critically, and make sound field decisions.
  • Must have strong customer communication skills and professional conduct.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
  • Must be willing to travel regularly for field service work.

Preferred Qualifications

  • OEM, military, trade school, industrial maintenance, or mechatronics background.
  • Experience with CNC machine installations, removals, decommissioning, rebuild support, and startup verification.
  • Experience with robotic loaders, bar feeders, pallet systems, tool changers, probing systems, rotary tables, and automated machine accessories.
  • Experience using diagnostic equipment such as multimeters, amp clamps, indicators, test bars, alignment tools, ballbar equipment, vibration tools, and other CNC service equipment.
  • Experience mentoring junior technicians or leading complex service projects.
  • Experience working in customer-facing field service environments.

Physical Requirements & Work Environment

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to climb ladders, work inside machine enclosures, stand for extended periods, and work around industrial machinery.
  • Comfortable working around high voltage, rotating equipment, hydraulic pressure, pneumatic systems, coolant, oil, chips, and shop environments.
  • Must follow proper safety procedures, including lockout/tagout practices and customer site safety requirements.
  • Must be comfortable working in active manufacturing facilities and adapting to different customer site requirements.

Compensation & Benefits

Pay: $40.00 – $65.00 per hour, based on experience, skill level, and proven CNC field service ability.

Top-end compensation is reserved for candidates with true master-level CNC troubleshooting experience, strong electrical and control knowledge, the ability to work independently in the field, professional customer communication skills, and the ability to lead complex service calls.

Overtime available and paid according to applicable state and federal labor laws.

Travel time, per diem, and job-related travel expenses are handled according to company policy.

Final pay will be based on demonstrated ability, including mechanical repair, electrical diagnostics, CNC control troubleshooting, machine alignment experience, documentation quality, travel readiness, and leadership capability.

Job Details

Job Type: Full-time

Schedule: Monday to Friday, with overtime and occasional weekend work as needed.

Expected Hours: 40–60 hours per week depending on workload and travel schedule.

Travel Requirement: Significant domestic travel required. Local and out-of-town field service work will be part of the position.
